A high volume node (HVN) is a price area in a volume profile where a large amount of volume traded, meaning participants spent time agreeing on value there. A low volume node (LVN) is the opposite: a thin area price moved through quickly because there was little interest at those prices.
The common reading is that HVNs act as areas of balance where price tends to slow or chop, while LVNs are areas of imbalance where price tends to travel quickly once it enters, since there is little prior business to absorb it. That makes LVNs a useful complement to liquidation structure: a thin volume node sitting between price and a magnet level is a path of least resistance, whereas an HVN in between is friction. Like the POC, both are descriptions of past trade, not forecasts.
